We value

integrity and quality

Of course we hope to earn your trust through providing great advice and awesome products, but we also hope to develop meaningful relationships and friendships along the way. We love sharing our passion for hostas and gardening—the good and the bad.

We have a great time sharing as we walk through the gardens on tours, have sales, or host our booth at the farmer's market. We learn so much from you, and hope that we can share a little of the knowledge we have gained along the way as well. We will no doubt make mistakes and screw up along the way, but that's how we learn and grow. We hope you are willing to grow along with us.

“Some of the biggest, healthiest hosta's I've ever purchased! Beautiful display gardens and very knowledgeable men to help you with any hosta questions! ” — Amanda

Hey there!

We’re Joe and Todd

Joe’s grandpa was an agronomist at the U of MN developing oats and soybeans. On Joe's birthday every year when he was young, Joe's grandpa would bring home annuals he had started in the greenhouse at work and help him plant them. He owes much of his passion for perennials and landscaping to his childhood neighbor, and second mom, Vicki, which whom he would garden and landscape.

When Joe and Todd first met, Joe helped Todd landscape his lawn into a beautiful garden in the heart of a housing development. While Todd has always loved flowers and plants, Joe’s obsession pushed him over the edge and he himself caught the gardening bug.

Lazy Toad Farm grew out of an annual garage sale style plant sale we began to host each year after thinning our perennials. (Really it’s because Joe couldn’t stop buying hostas and needed more space to plant them and money to buy them.)

We bought ten acres in Clearwater in 2016 and planted the first Hosta garden in 2017 in the turnaround of the driveway. Each year brings a new garden project as we grow. Currently we grow over 1000 varieties of Hosta in addition to other perennials, cut flowers, veggies, and succulents.

We’d love to share our our passion with you!
